Well another day has come to a close, and I'm almost ready to be done. It was a busy day here, and lots of stuff got done. We met with IREA at the lot this morning. George and the field engineer walked around a lot trying to decide the best place for the pole. There were certainly lots of possible sites, but George wanted the pole to be nearly invisible from the house. After careful studying, they came up with a spot that's about 80 feet from the main pole at the road, and hidden behind lots of trees. The pictures show, but it might be hard to 'get' where it is with no house as a reference.

I walked around a lot while they were working (it was pretty boring) and got a lot of great pictures. In addition to the power pole pictures above, the ones that I'm sending to you tonight are:

A really cool moss ball. I don't know what else to call it. I've never seen one before. It was hanging on a nearly dead tree. I just thought it was a cool picture.
A pile of slash to be mulched. George's idea is to spread the mulch over the area that used to be the driveway.
A pile of big rocks. The plan for these is to place them on the edges of the driveway as landscaping. Ideas tend to 'evolve' so we'll see....
A big pile of gravel for when the house is framed in and ready for more gravel. He only finished it as far as he did because so much work is left to do. There's also a big pile of top soil for backfill after the house is done (for grass and flowers). I added some pictures of the mud that most contractors would use as the driveway until the house is done. It's just a muddy mess if you do that, so George does it this way. I really like it.
There's still snow on the building site, but that's a good thing. It actually keeps the ground warmer than if it were 'naked', so he's not going to clear the snow until it's time for the concrete.
I included a great picture of an aspen tree so we can keep track of when they bud. When we were in Oklahoma City a few weeks ago I noticed that their trees are budded out already. I mentioned that it was awful early, but they said no, it's right on time. Ours don't usually bud until late April or early May, so we'll see what this year brings! I'll use the same tree to gauge it.
AND it appears that you have visitors on your lot! I had to step over countless piles of deer poop, so they must just be hanging around. My experience is that the construction project doesn't scare them away. I'll try to be there while they're there and get pics.
and here's the driveway on the way out. Looks great I think!
The driveway looks good! You mentioned mulching the area where the driveway used to be- which area are you referring to? Was a portion of the driveway relocated? Cute mossball. See any bear poop? V&K
ReplyDeleteHa ha !.... No, I'll keep my eyes peeled for bear poop (it's a bit early for them though). Yes, remember a few weeks ago when I said that George had widened out one of the curves in the driveway to help the slope and the angles? If you look at the last driveway picture, about an inch up on the left side, you can sort of see where the driveway was, and the picture shows where the curve is now. If you didn't know where it was, you wouldn't even notice it, but the mulch might help it grow back faster. Next pictures I'll see if I can get a picture of the old vs. new. It's snowing right now (ugh) but maybe it won't cover the ground. By the way, I really appreciate your commenting on the posts. That way I know you've read them.
