More snow! (what a surprise.....)

It's Thursday night, it's snowing, and all is well. Everything is going well here, the snow is falling - but it was expected. They are planning for 2 feet, but I'm not thinking we'll get that much. It's the really wet snow that leaves a mess but also a lot of moisture, so let it snow!

The last pictures that I sent to you were the footers formed but not poured. Today I have pictures of the finished footers, getting ready for the walls, and the poured walls. I'm also including a picture of a tree in the city that I saw buds on. (Just to remind myself that it will come!)

Here you are, the pictures from this week:

This power pole isn't new, but the connection just below the transformer is. Notice that it takes off to the left. The next picture will show where it goes!

ta da! Here's the meter pole, right between the power pole and the foundation. It's really hard to see unless you follow the wire in the middle of the picture (which was the idea...)

Here is the poured footers (a part of it anyway) before they started building the walls on top of them. Notice the rebar poking out of the concrete. There's lots of metal inside the concrete and connecting the footers to the walls.

Here's another further away picture of the footers.

Here is the foundation crew already building the back walls. They are amazing.

They've got all the wall stuff sitting in place ready to set up.

Here we are the next day (tax day). The foundation is all set up, poured, and blanketed for the coming snow.
Here's another picture of the finished wall forming and blankets. It's kinda boring, unless it's your house :-)

This picture should have been ahead of the others. It's the foundation walls poured, but not yet blanketed.

This is the view from the front of the house, in the driveway. You can see the front frost wall and the back wall in the background.

...and here is that picture of buds on trees! OK, it's down in Colorado Springs, but how far can spring be?

and here is the video of driving into the driveway. Sorry about the poor filming and the hood of the car. I tried....

  1. Wow- it's always interesting seeing wall forms constructed. The structure looks so big (even in the smaller photos). When you say frost wall and foundation wall you mean the same thing, right? Nothing boring here; it really is amazing (for us engineers and non-engineers alike). Thanks again for putting the effort into this blog- it's the next best thing to being there in person. We're still amazed at the length of the driveway- we've really forgotten since we were there last November. So how did you fare with this last storm? What was the total snow accumulation?
